BUILDING THE FUTURE

National Engineering & Geoscience Week, Feb. 22 to March 3, features great events for professionals, students and others, across the province. The idea is to make the public more aware of the work you do and the importance of applied science to their lives. Watch for special NEGW supplements in the Edmonton Journal and the Calgary Herald, Feb. 22.

THE GREAT PASSPORT FLOOD

As Canadians flock to get their passports, APEGGA members have been phoning their Association with questions about the role of the guarantor. Here are answers to the two most common questions we receive.

Q Are professional geologists and professional geophysicists permitted to be guarantors?

A. Yes. Printed forms may not say so yet, but the Passport Canada website lists “geoscientists” as guarantors.

Q. Are life members permitted to be guarantors?

A. Yes. You must be a member in good standing and listed on the database. This does not mean the same thing as practicing – it just means your membership status is active and in good standing.

For more information, visit Passport Canada at www.ppt.gc.ca/help/faq.aspx?lang=e.
