Confederation Bridge

The presentation will be "Geotechnical Engineering Aspects of the Confederation Bridge to PEI". It is a PowerPoint presentation on the methods of foundation installation used for the pier bases, including dredging, rock socket piles and footing bases, including marine engineering aspects of bridge erection. It shows the bridge construction from inception and in various stages to completion, including the extremely large construction yard.

Jim Ryan is originally from Prince Edward Island and graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now Dalhousie) in 1993. Jim consulted in Halifax for a year before joining Golder Associates in 1994 to work on the bridge construction in 1994, 1995 and 1996 as a geotechnical engineer/inspector. Jim has been with EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd in Alberta since 1997. Jim obtained his Masters degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Alberta between 1998 and 2002, while working full time. Jim is currently the project director of EBA’s Lethbridge geotechnical and materials engineering practice. EBA is a consulting firm based in western Canada, currently with about 650 employees in Alberta, BC, Whitehorse and Yellowknife. EBA’s practice areas include transportation, northern mining, environmental science, geotechnical engineering and materials engineering.
