IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS!
Paper (hard copy) application forms for licensure by APEGA will not be accepted after August 31st, 2011. As of September 1, 2011 all applications will have to be submitted electronically using our Online Application System
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To apply for licensure as a Professional Member or Foreign Licensee with APEGA you must complete APEGA’s Application for Registration Form and submit it to APEGA with the required accompanying documents and application fee.
If you are an Engineer please refer to the Engineers – General
Registration link for detailed information and forms.
If you are a Geologist or Geophysicist please refer to the Geoscientists – General Registration link for more detailed information and forms.
APEGA must receive your transcripts and a copy of your certificate of graduation directly from your academic institution. In the general application package there is a document called “Request for Academic Documents.” You must complete this form and send it to your academic institution. This form authorizes and instructs your institution to forward your transcripts and certificate of graduation directly to APEGA. Do not ask your institution to forward your transcripts and certificate of graduation to you. APEGA must receive those documents directly from your institution.
If APEGA receives your transcripts and certificate of graduation in a language other than English, we will have it translated into English at our expense.
For more information, please contact
the APEGA registration department.
When you apply to APEGA you will need to provide us with a detailed description of your work experience. Please refer to the Work Experience Record Instructions for detailed instructions.
For more information, please contact
the APEGA registration department.
APEGA will require references for all your work experience. References must be individuals who have personal, first-hand knowledge of your work experience. References should be engineers or geoscientists in the country in which you worked. The best references are from engineer or geoscience supervisors, however APEGA will also accept references from engineering and geoscience colleagues.
References for your Canadian work experience must come from Professional Engineers, Professional Geologists, or Professional Geophysicists with personal knowledge of your Canadian work experience.
APEGA requires at least three references, but may require more references depending on the circumstances. For APEGA to consider waiving confirmatory examinations on the basis of your work experience (refer to Academic Requirements) you will need to provide references to cover at least ten years of high level work experience. This may require more than three references. If you have more than ten years of work experience, it is to your benefit to provide references to cover that entire period.
When you apply to APEGA you will need to provide us with the names and contact information of your references. APEGA will then contact your references directly. Do not have your references contact APEGA.
If you know the email addresses of your references, you may provide those to APEGA. APEGA will forward Reference Questionnaires to those references electronically. Your references can then complete the Reference Questionnaires and return them to APEGA electronically. However, APEGA will not accept completed Reference Questionnaires from generic email addresses such as yahoo.com or hotmail.com.
If APEGA receives your reference in a language other than English, we will have it translated into English at our expense.
For more information, please contact
the APEGA registration department.
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) of
Canada and are applying for licensure as a Professional Member, please provide
APEGA with a copy of your Canadian Citizenship Card or your Record of Landing.
Under the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act of Alberta it is the APEGA Board of Examiners that evaluates the qualifications of applications for licensure.
Very briefly, the process followed for a typical application is:
You submit your completed application form, documentation, and required application fee
APEGA collects all the required documents such as original transcripts, completed reference questionnaires, record of TOEFL scores, translations and other required information.
The APEGA Board of Examiners reviews your qualifications based on the documentation received.
The Board determines whether you meet the licensure requirements or whether you must meet some conditions such as writing technical examinations or gaining additional experience before you can be licensed.
Occasionally, the Board of Examiners may require additional or more detailed information. You may be asked to provide this.
After the Board of Examiners has completed evaluating your qualifications, you will be notified in writing of the Board decision. If you have satisfied all the requirements you will be licensed as a Professional Member or Foreign Licensee. If the Board has determined you must write examinations, obtain more experience, or satisfy some other requirement, you will need to complete that before you can become licensed.
For more detailed information please refer to the Engineers – General Registration or Geoscientists – General Registration sections of the website.
