Do you like win-win-win-win situations, fun activities and incredibly rewarding experiences? Then you will like the APEGGA Outreach Program. Your talent and energy are needed.
Students win, teachers win, the public wins — and so do you.
Last year more than 400 members volunteered in APEGGA’s provincewide Outreach Program. Another 600 members assisted at special annual outreach events.
Together they reached more than 35,000 Alberta youth, teachers and public. Your support can increase the value of the program and enhance the results.
A minimum of five hours of your time can make a difference.
Outreach volunteers are ambassadors of their profession and Association. They choose the activities they prefer, like presentations, career booths, science events, judging, job shadows or career interviews.
What will you do?
Our outreach volunteers
promote careers in
Engineering, geology and geophysics
raise awareness of the work of engineers and geoscientists
promote interest in science, math and technology
work together and have fun!
Hone your communication and presentation skills. Meet and work with practicing members and university students. Renew friendships. Earn professional development credits.
All of the above are important, but the most compelling reasons to volunteer for the APEGGA Outreach Program come from our audience and volunteers.
Read the testimonials that follow. We think they’ll persuade you to join.
Thank you for teaching us about rocks. You make learning fun and interesting.
Me and my class learned a lot! I hope you visit all the schools in the whole
wide world!
We couldn’t have gotten anyone better than you.
You are my most favourite engineer in the world. I’m going to be a mechanical engineer when I grow up.
Thanks for teaching us about engineering people. I really liked making the bridges. I wish you could teach us all the time.
Your job is cool! It is the best in the world!
I learned that engineers are good at making things.
When I grow up, I want to be a geologist like you. You are a great geologist.
The students are psyched about becoming future engineers. Thanks for the visit.
On behalf of the staff and Grade 3 students, I would like to thank you for your excellent presentation. The students thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and were especially delighted with the hands-on activity. Thank you so much for your generous donation of time and expertise. We really appreciate it.
The children still talk about the volunteer’s visit. They refer to what they did and learned. The visit enriched their learning and enjoyment of science.
The program is very good. It reinforces the activities and concepts we use in class. I even learned some new things!
The volunteer was a joy to have in our school. I think this APEGGA program is a great idea. What a way to give back to your community!
Thank you once again for a great program! I have recommended it to colleagues.
Thank you for your assistance in connecting our classes to your wonderful resource people. Your members are wonderful role models for our students.
The job shadow opportunity gave my daughter a glimpse of the working world and engineering that she would not have been aware of. Thank you.
Your geologists are great! I learn a lot from them. I have been at the Rock & Fossil Clinics for the past three years and will be back next year.
As a parent and member of the school parent council, I extend sincere thanks to APEGGA members for the amazing science night they hosted at our school. We all had fun and learned so much more about science and your members.
I don’t know who had more fun at this science night, me or my granddaughter. Your members are wonderful. Thank you for having this event.
Classroom presentations are such uplifting experiences that you remember each one for weeks or even years afterwards. Sometimes I go back to a school two years later and give a higher grade presentation to the same class. Everyone remembers me. It’s amazing how well they remember what you did.
Students and teachers really appreciated my classroom presentation and were so enthusiastic. I haven’t felt this good about my job and profession in years.
I was surprised how easy it is to volunteer. I loved it and will definitely do it again. I have recruited two friends to join.
I have been an Outreach volunteer for 14 years. I will continue in the program as long as I have fun and can make a difference. I like to give back to my profession and community, and to pay ahead.
