TransAlta recognizes the importance of electricity to the consumer. That’s why we’ve committed significant resources to manage the year 2000 issue. You’ve probably heard a great deal about Y2K and its potential to disrupt information systems and business operations globally. For the electric power industry, a huge effect was required due to the widespread use of electronic technology and the complexity of an interconnected power grid.

TransAlta's Focus is on keeping the power system and internal busines processes intact.  The scope of the project is company-wide, and includes control and automation systesm used throughout our operations.

By June 30th, TransAlta had fixed or replaced and tested all major systesm that generate and deliver elecricity, meeting the standard set by the North American Reliability Council.  Further testing has been done at all gnerating plants where clocks were advanced to Dec. 31, 1999 and monitored as they successfull passed through critical Y2K dates.  TransAlta's generating plants continue to operate in the year 2000 today.

TransAlta is working with key customers, suppliers and business partners to minimize the risk of unexpected events. We have contingency plans in place to restore service quickly in the unlikely event of a year 2000-related power outage.
