NEGM Kickoff Events

 

Celebrations start with NEGM kickoff events. Engineers and geoscientists will compete in a fun science challenge that will test their skills. The public and other engineering and geoscience professionals are invited to attend and cheer them on. Dates and locations will be announced soon. Keep extra change on hand this week! Pies are sent by friends and enemies, and the recipient must donate money to send it on or take it in the face. All funds raised go to Habitat for Humanity.

Students and faculty raise thousands of dollars for Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS), while sending their colleagues pies to take in the face.

First and Second Year Student Dinner
March 28
Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Calgary

Students are introduced to members of the faculty and industry, served a four star meal at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, and provided the opportunity to exercise networking skills critical for their future careers. Awards are distributed to professors, and to the student who best represents engineering spirit and shows outstanding leadership within the engineering community.

Canstruction® Calgary

Looking for an adventure that is truly out of this world? The 7th annual Canstruction® Calgary competition will be an event of truly astronomical proportions. This year’s theme is The Universe: Yours To Discover. On Feb. 29, starting at 9 a.m., local businesses and schools will be creating the cosmos out of canned goods. Exhibits will be on display March 1-9 and can be viewed with paid admission to TELUS Spark. All the food will be donated to the Calgary Food Bank.

 

Engineers Without Borders Edmonton

Engineers Without Borders Edmonton and the North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper will host the inaugural Fire & Ice Gala, which will feature an evening of dinner, entertainment, silent and live auctions, with master of ceremonies Danny Hooper. Funds raised will support initiatives to improve water infrastructure in Malawi and Ghana and deliver community education and awareness programs on watershed stewardship and water quality to Alberta’s youth. Engineers Without Borders University of Alberta Chapter

Spaces, the 1st Annual Engineering Art Show, takes place March 19-30. Engineering students, faculty, and professionals will share their creative side at Spaces, the 1st annual engineering art show. Various mediums will be featured, from photography to painting to sculpture and more. The art will be displayed in various engineering buildings at the University of Alberta. A final showcase evening will be held April 2 (location and time TBD). For more information, email engineeringspaces@gmail.com.

Paleo 2012 is presented in conjunction with the CSPG Palaeontological Division
and Mount Royal University Earth Sciences Department. Saturday lecture events and poster viewings at Jenkins Theatre are free and require no registration. Saturday will include fossil displays and activities of interest to a wide audience including families. Sunday workshops (Room B213) are $15 each and require registration.
