This award is presented to Members of APEGGA who have served their profession diligently for many years and made substantial contributions to the operation of the Association and the advancement of its professional status.

Mr. Darrel Danyluk, P.Eng., has been a strong and consistent voice of the engineering profession in Alberta, across Canada and internationally. His visionary insight and energy always generate new and innovative paths that bring great benefit to the engineering profession. Mr. Danyluk has served as a board member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and the Alberta Building Standards Council and as President of the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA), APEGGA and the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (now Engineers Canada).
During his presidency of Engineers Canada, Mr. Danyluk developed a bold strategic plan, continued mobility discussions with US national representatives and initiated discussions with other Canadian engineering organizations on a common vision for Canadian Professional Engineers. This led to the formation of the Canadian Engineering Leadership Forum. As president of CEA he was instrumental in working with APEGGA to develop a memorandum of understanding which continues to provide guidance to both associations.
He spearheaded an initiative that led Engineers Canada back to the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and in 2007 became a WFEO Vice-President and Chair of the Standing Committee on Engineering and the Environment. In this capacity, he has been a driving force at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Mr. Danyluk’s international experience began in 1976 in Haiti, followed by water infrastructure work in Mexico, Africa, Europe and China. In 2001, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary as a distinguished industrial visitor. In this capacity, he developed connections between university faculty members and regional companies and industries. He became the first executive director of the Calgary Centre for Innovative Technology when it was launched by the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary in 2005 and helped establish new initiatives in this area.
Subsequently, he became the project director on the University of Calgary / City of Calgary Urban
Alliance initiative, and has contributed to the ongoing leadership and strong linkages between the university and the City of Calgary with positive results. The Urban Alliance is seen as an excellent model for universities to connect with their local communities and to leverage expertise to the benefit of society.
