Mr. Shane D. Stark, P.Eng., M.Eng.

Over the course of his 25-year career, Mr. Shane Stark, P.Eng., M.Eng., has worked hard to create and foster an environment in his workplace at Imperial Oil that motivates and inspires employees to grow both technically and professionally. Never too busy to answer a question, Mr. Stark is considered an enthusiastic teacher and a positive role model by all the individuals he has mentored at Imperial Oil.

He has had a positive impact upon the careers of a range of individuals including reservoir engineers, subsurface and facility engineers, geoscientists and operations personnel.  As a result, those fortunate enough to have worked with Mr. Stark and to have been mentored by him have learned a valuable lesson – it is the people and the development of individuals within an organization that make a difference. The people he mentors thrive because of his commitment to their success and the success of the organization and the positive, collaborative learning environment he strives to create and share. His passion remains as strong as ever and his willingness to mentor is unwavering.

With a warm, non-judgmental attitude, he is known to be extremely approachable. This encourages protégés to feel comfortable asking a range of questions whether simple or complex. He takes a keen interest in the success of every individual, and routinely follows-up with them to ensure they are on track following any discussions and see if they require additional assistance.

Mr. Stark has dedicated countless hours at work and often after hours to inspire and teach Engineers-in-Training and others. He never hesitates to make the time to grab a pad of paper and a pencil and walk someone through a technical challenge. He has a wealth of knowledge, and his willingness and dedication to sharing it is evident to all. He makes time for others all the while managing an extremely busy work schedule.

Mr. Stark's legacy is sure to continue long after he leaves Imperial Oil and his dedication to his role as the Cold Lake Reservoir Engineering Advisor will long be remembered, as will his focus on the most valuable asset of any organization – its people.
