This award is presented to Members of APEGGA who are recognized by their peers for their integrity and expertise and for their outstanding accomplishments in fields related to engineering, geology or geophysics.
Internationally recognized for his research and technical expertise, Dr. Gordon Moore, P.Eng., is a renowned professor and also provides consulting services in the area of improved oil recovery world wide. Co-founder of the In Situ Combustion Research Group and Hycal Energy Research Laboratories, a successful Alberta-based research and service laboratory, Dr. Moore is actively involved with a number of international technology transfer and training programs. Over the years he has worked with over 75 energy companies and government agencies, both in Canada and internationally.
Dr. Moore began his career at the University of Calgary in 1970. As a professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering he introduced the Oil and Gas Engineering program. He was Head of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from 1992 -2003 and he is the representative on the Canadian National Committee of the World Petroleum Congress. Dr. Moore's expertise has helped establish 19 international research and educational partnerships that benefit the University of Calgary and the Canadian oil industry. These partnerships have been, and continue to be, consultants to major Canadian, as well as international, energy companies in the area of improved oil recovery and safety.
He is an active member of two engineering companies and serves the national and international community as a technical expert. As an internationally recognized leader in the area of in situ combustion techniques, he has published over 90 refereed journal papers and co‑authored/delivered more than 300 papers at various national and international conferences. Dr. Moore has also made more than 130 presentations, prepared over 150 technical reports for industrial sponsors and holds eight patents.
His research contributions have earned him international honours, he was named distinguished member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and a distinguished lecturer to the Society of Petroleum Engineers International. He has also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Petroleum Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum. In 2004, Dr. Moore received the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award and in 2006, the Champion of the Schulich School of Engineering Award. Most recently he and his co-authors received the Best Theoretical-Oriented Paper Award at the World Environmental & Water Resources Congress.
