The Staff Benefits Committee deals with APEGGA's staff pension
plan – a defined benefit plan. The job involves monitoring investment performance
quarterly and recommending to Council annually the level of contributions both
staff and APEGGA should make to the plan.
APEGGA has a pension consultant as well as an investment
adviser who manages the plan's assets, but ultimately the committee has to approve
their recommendations. Therefore, familiarity with pension plans and investments
is an asset, but it’s not an absolute requirement.
