Adapting Infrastructure to a Changing Climate
PIEVC’s Engineering Protocol
Engineers Canada, with its Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC), has drafted a step-by-step process to assess the impact of climate change of infrastructure.
PIEVC is supported by infrastructure expert working groups consisting of engineers and other technical experts with design and operations experience in the particular infrastructure category as well as climate scientists and other subject matter experts. Engineers Canada is currently looking for volunteers for these expert working groups. PIEVC currently has four such groups to assess these categories of infrastructure:
1. Buildings
2. Roads and associated structures
3. Stormwater and wastewater treatment and collection systems
4. Water resource systems and other water management infrastructures.
Engineers Canada is also creating a knowledge base of case studies. Any vulnerable built infrastructure from the province is eligible to be assessed.
