Safety Code Changes In Response To High-Intensity Residential Fires
As a key stakeholder, this is your opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the building and fire code changes scheduled for adoption in January 2009. The changes come in response to the government’s acceptance of most of the recommendations received from the high-intensity residential fires working group report, released by Honourable Ray Danyluk, Minister of Municipal Affairs, in May.
The primary goal is to increase fire safety and protection for residential buildings while continuing to provide Albertans with affordable and accessible housing. These changes will be in advance of the normal harmonized national code cycle, and will assist in reducing the likelihood and the impact of high-intensity residential fires in the province.
Click here to view the code changes and provide feedback via the Municipal Affairs website. Comments will be accepted until Aug. 29.
If you have any problems accessing this survey, please contact Alberta Municipal Affairs Safety Services Branch toll free at 1-866-421-6929.
