New Summit Award Recognizes Support for Women

APEGGA has created a new Summit Awards category. The APEGGA Women in Engineering and Geoscience Champion Award is designed to recognize professional members or permit holders that have demonstrated noteworthy and inspirational support for women practicing engineering or geoscience.

Donations Needed for Silent Auction
 
2011 Honorary Address

APEGGA is one of the presenting sponsors of the 2011 Honorary Address, Fire and Ice, to be held on Nov. 2 at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium.

The organizing committee is now accepting items for the silent auction. Items donated in the past include hockey tickets, art, guided hike tours and passes to family-friendly events.

Your donation is acknowledged at the event and all donators receive a pair of complimentary tickets to attend.

All proceeds go to the CSPG's charitable organization, The Education Trust Fund.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and talk starts at 7.

There are five science networks around the province that offer the Scientists & Engineers in the Classroom program. Find out about the networks and how you can volunteer to deliver exciting science classroom presentations in Grades 1-12. Help students make the connection between careers and the science they learn in school.

Scientists & Engineers in the Classroom is a joint program of Alberta Science Literacy Association and APEGGA.

Judges Needed for U of A
Engineering Design Competition

Edmonton members are needed to act as judges for the annual University of Alberta Engineering Design Competition organized by the Engineering Students’ Society. Please help to support our students in these competitions that test their engineering skills and talent. Details below.

Saturday, Nov. 5
Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex, Solarium, 2nd floor
University of Alberta

8:45 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Junior design competition
Competition is for first and second year students. Generally a civil or mechanical based application.
Four to five judges required.

8:45 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Senior design competition
Competition is for third and fourth year students. Generally combines mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.
Three to four judges required.

8:45 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Debate competition
Two to three judges required.

The Engineering Head Shave is an annual event put on by the Engineering Students' Society at the University of Alberta. To date, the Engineering Head Shave has raised over $165,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation and this year the event goal is to raise $25,000.

If you are able to donate your hair for wigs or shave your head in support, or even just attend, while raising money for a geat cause, then contact the event coordinators at headshave@ess.ualberta.ca

MPG Builds Circuitry Skills

Called MPG for short, an extracurricular group at the University of Calgary is definitely not running on empty. And in any case, MPG has nothing to do with fuel mileage. The initials stand for MicroProcessor Group, a decade-old project of the Calgary IEEE Student Branch.

MPG is stronger than ever, says Jason Long, P.Eng., who created and runs the program.
