2009 Annual Conference and AGM

Leading Change — a celebration of the ways that professional engineers, geologists and geophysicists contribute, as leaders, to their professions and the larger community - is the theme of APEGGA’s 2009 Annual Conference.

This year’s events take place at Calgary’s TELUS Convention Centre and the Fairmont Palliser.

Continuing Series: What’s In It For Me?
GeoSkills Day 2009

APEGGA is a proud to present the second annual GeoSkills Training Day on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Metropolitan Centre in downtown Calgary. The annual Geoscience Mixer will follow after 4 p.m.

The half day of mini-courses and lectures is suited for industry and students alike. Over 100 undergraduates from the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary and several other transfer colleges will join 20 to 30 industry representatives for lunch and the courses.

WHERE Challenge

In celebration of International Year of Planet Earth, the first annual WHERE Challenge wants to get children excited about their world and the things it provides. The concept is simple: Canadian children aged 10 to 14 are being asked two questions.

What on Earth is in your stuff? the contest wants to know. And WHERE on Earth does it come from?

More than $17,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to regional and national winners, as well as schools. The non-profit WHERE Challenge is sponsored by EnCana Corporation and Teck Cominco Limited.

The evening event takes place at Kennedy Elementary School in Grimshaw on Mar. 3. Ten to 15 volunteers are needed to help host the evening including set up, carryout and takedown. All materials and instructions are provided, nothing complicated, just fun.

Organizers of the National Engineering & Geoscience Week (February 26 – March 7) are seeking teams to compete in a fun science event, as part of the NEGW celebration. The kick off events begin on Thursday, Feb. 26 in Calgary and Edmonton. Help us celebrate National Engineering & Geoscience Week while increasing public awareness about the important role that engineers, geologists and geophysicists play in our everyday lives.
