Nominations Welcome
For APEGGA Elections
A number of mail-in candidates have already added their names to the 2012 ballot. And there's still time for more.
Any professional member (professional engineer, professional geoscientist or professional licensee) can be nominated as a write-in candidate. To get their name on the ballot, write-in candidates must submit a form with supporting signatures from at least 10 professional members. The deadline for APEGGA to receive write-in nominations is Jan. 22.
Polls for the 2012 election open Feb. 27 and close April 1.

Dues Remain the Same
APEGGA's financial house is in order and there's no need to increase dues, Council decided Dec. 8. The decision – which sees dues remain at $290 per member – concurs with recommendations from Council's finance committee. It's part of a budget approval that forecasts about $20 million in revenue and expenses in 2012.
Watch for more budget information in your January e-PEG. |

Climate Change Survey
What do Canada’s professional engineers know and what are they doing when it comes to climate change and the nation’s civil infrastructure? A survey from the Canadian Standards Association seeks answers to those questions.
Those readers of the e-PEG who are also professional engineers licensed in Canada are invited to take part.
The CSA, on behalf of Engineers Canada and its constituent associations (including APEGGA), is after the engineering perspective on mitigation of the effects of climate change. If your practice involves transportation, buildings, water, energy or resources, Engineers Canada is especially interested in your answers.

Training Workshop – How Will Climate Change Affect Civil Infrastructure in Canadian Municipalities?
On Feb. 7, Engineers Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities will host a training workshop in Ottawa on the Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee Protocol. This one-day workshop will provide Canadian municipal decision-makers and infrastructure practitioners with information about future climate change and its impacts, focusing on the Protocol’s standardized method used to estimate the risks climate change poses to municipal infrastructure.
The workshop precedes the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ bi-annual Sustainable Communities Conference and Trade Show, held from Feb. 8-10. Municipal engineers attending the conference are encouraged to register for the Feb. 7 workshop to take in this valuable continuing professional development opportunity.
For more information on the workshop, including how to register, please visit the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ website.
