CENTRAL ALBERTA APEGGA MEMBERS

Interested in robotics?

Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer is entering a student team in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) Robotics Competition and looking for APEGGA members to volunteer as mentors for the student team members. There are several volunteer opportunities as there are several components to building a robot (mechanical, electrical, controls, etc.).

One of the priorities of the competition is to allow the students to build the robot with the guidance of local professionals in order to gain exposure to the knowledge and skills of professionals in the workplace. This will be the students' second year in the competition.

Last year was a success as they won a trophy for highest-seed rookie team in Toronto. The 2007 competition opens January 6, 2007. For more details, go online to www.usfirst.org, click on the drop down menu "What We Do", and click on "FIRST Robotics Competition".

For more information, or to forward your name as a volunteer, contact Mr. Mike Owens at Hunting Hills High School at (403) 342-6655 ext. 2180 or e-mail at mowens@rdpsd.ab.ca
