Building Sustainability with LEED –
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design

The upcoming winter games in Vancouver aims to be the most sustainable sporting event of its kind; as part of their commitment to the environment, games organizers pledged to construct all new venues to a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standard or better. The presentation will discuss design and construction strategies that improve energy, sustainability, and athlete performance and features case studies of the Hillcrest Curling Rink, Richmond Speed Oval, Whistler Nordic Centre, Whistler Sliding Centre, and the Killarney Ice Rink.

Pre-Registration and advance payments are required. Seating is limited and registrations will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please call the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 to register before Friday, February 1, 2008. APEGGA President John McLeod, P.Eng., will be providing an update on issues of interest specifically to Members as well as some broader issues related to public safety and well-being. Topics will include voting rights and privileges for M.I.T.s, the move to a new P.Geo. designation, Provisional Licensees, our new partners in professionalism - ASET, TILMA and QBS, the skilled labour shortage, infrastructure inspection and maintenance, water resource management and environmental reclamation and remediation. Please join your President and fellow Members for an exchange of ideas and information.

  • Each organization is asked to send a five member team.

  • The challenge will be a mystery and will test teams on their innovative and creative abilities, their teamwork, quick thinking, and building talents.

  • Teams are welcome to bring their own cheering teams and mascots.

  • Awards and gifts will be given to all registered teams.
