What are the ingredients of good union – management relationships? The documentary film “Beyond Collision: High Integrity Labour Relations” highlights four organizations and their unions that have created relationships that are productive for the company, the union, and the employees. Filmed on location, the stories cover pulp and paper, railways, a medical lab, and government department. Written case studies accompany the film. Professor Allen Ponak of the University of Calgary is the executive producer and narrator. Funded by grants from Labour Canada and the Industrial Relations Research Group, the film is available in DVD or VHS from www.moderntimesworkplace.com.
In this program, Professor Ponak will introduce and show the film and then talk about the lessons that can be drawn for other organizations. Based on his more than 30 years of teaching, research, and practice in labour relations, he will explore the myths surrounding union and management interaction and answer questions on collective bargaining, arbitration, and new directions in the law.
Pre-registration and advance payments are required. Seating is limited and registrations will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please call the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 or register online. The Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. |

Professional Engineers Wanted
The University of Calgary Engineering Students’ Society present their annual First and Second Year Dinner
Wanted: Professional Engineers
Date: March 25, 2009
Place: The Fairmont Palliser Hotel
Reception and dinner: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m
Professional engineers are invited to mix and mingle with first and second year undergraduate engineering students seeking your knowledge and advice. Students will talk with professionals about their areas of expertise, their career paths, and why they chose their specific discipline. This provides a valuable networking opportunity for students, and also allows employers to look for potential summer students.
If you are interested in volunteering, please call Becky Windley at (403) 262-7714 or e-mail bwindley@apega.ca. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your assistance. |
