We need to engage each other in the engineering and geoscience professions in a
discussion about Members’ engagement with their self-regulating professional
Association and in so doing reflect upon the question – Why APEGGA? As part of the
discussion, APEGGA President Jim Beckett, P.Eng., will address the role of a selfregulating
professional Association in the 21st Century, the implementation of the One
Act, Two Associations regulatory model with ASET and some thoughts on how we as
professionals contribute to the engineering of an engineer or the formation of a
geoscientist.

To ensure adequate seating please preregister with the Calgary APEGGA Office at 403-262-7714 or register online prior to Thursday, Feb. 18.  Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.

The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer

Mr. J.A Howard, P.Eng., Chairman of Camp #18, Calgary, announces that the Spring Iron Ring Ceremony will be held at 1:30 pm, March 13 at The Calgary Telus Convention Centre.

University of Calgary graduating engineers wishing to take the obligation may sign up at the Undergraduate Studies Office ENC204 between Jan. 18 and Feb. 26.

Practicing Engineers must meet the following criteria:

1. Completion of a Bachelor Degree in Engineering at a Canadian University accredited by CEAB;
2. Completion of a post graduate degree in Engineering at a Canadian University and having met the requirements for registration as an E.I.T. in a Provincial Association;
3. Failing 1) or 2), having met the requirements for registration as a P.Eng. in a Provincial Association;
4. In addition to the above, the Candidate must be deemed worthy by the Camp performing the Ritual.

University of Alberta students graduating in geology and geophysics wishing to take the obligation will be receiving information in the Fall from the PS Warren Geological Society and the Geophysics Undergraduate Society. Students should be signed up by mid March 2010.

University of Calgary students graduating in geology and geophysics wishing to take the obligation: information on signing up will be provided in the Fall by the student clubs (The Rundle Group and GUSS). Students should be signed up by Feb. 26.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Graduating Student Workshop

Date: Saturday, March 13, 2010  
Time: Registration: 8:15 a.m.
Workshop: 9:30 a.m.
Luncheon: 12:00 p.m.
Ceremony: 1:30 p.m.
 
Location: Calgary TELUS Convention Centre  

This morning workshop is for new graduates in Engineering, Geology and Geophysics at the University of Calgary. Graduates interact with Practicing Professional Members in small groups who evaluate case studies on registration, compliance, ethics and investigative issues intended to demonstrate the importance of ethical considerations in the practice of the professions.

To make the day a success approximately 80 practicing professional members are needed to assist. Professionals participating in the Ring Ceremonies are also invited to attend the workshop.

The workshop is held in conjunction with the Ring Ceremonies: The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer also known as the Camp 18 Spring Iron Ring Ceremony and the Earth Ring Ceremony both being held at 1:30 p.m.

APEGGA is pleased to host the luncheon for those who assist at the workshop.

The University of Calgary Engineering Students Present their annual First and Second Year Engineering Dinner

A formal dinner with deep seeded traditions, this annual event is the highlight of
the second semester for first and second year. It is a great occasion where
students are introduced to members of the faculty and industry. This dinner is
also an opportunity to recognize outstanding professors who have contributed
their experience and knowledge to better every student’s education.
