APEGGA MEDICINE HAT BRANCH
TECH & SOCIAL MEETING

BOW CITY POWER PROJECT – MINE PLAN

Presented by: J. (Joe) Derosier, P.Eng.
Senior Mining Associate – Norwest Corp.

Norwest Corporation is an employee-owned energy, mining and environmental consulting company offering a wide range of services to the energy, minerals and natural resource industries. These include geological, engineering and consulting for the evaluation and development of coal, coalbed methane, oil sands, oil shale, industrial minerals and base and precious metals projects. Norwest Corporation was retained as mine consultant for Luscar Ltd. which is proposing to develop in two phases, a two-unit 1000-megawatt clean coal-fired power plant and associated coalmine facility near Bow City, Alberta.

Mr. Derosier has 20+ years experience of progressive supervisory and technical experience in the resource industry, working as consultant to major mining and power companies including Manalta, Luscar, Fording, TAU and ATCO. Currently he is the project Manager and Mine Planner for the Bow City Power Project.

Mr. Derosier’s presentation will focus on the development of the mine plan from both an engineering perspective and from the public involvement perspective; and, he will touch briefly on the generating station component of the overall project.

Construction in the first phase, expected to be completed by 2010, will include one clean-fired thermal electric generating unit of approximately 500 megawatts, a surface coal mine with one dragline, a coal preparation plant, and connection to a high voltage switchyard. The second phase is expected to be completed in 2014. The proposed mine permit boundary encompasses approximately 13,500 ha. and contains enough coal reserves to fuel the project for more than 40 years.
