In the University of London's 2008 report, The Global Engineer, experts agreed, "The future of engineering is being framed by global forces which transcend national boundaries such as the impacts of globalization, rapid technology advances, climate change and inequality." By 2015, 80 percent of infrastructure and utilities work will be taking place in developing countries.

In these developing countries, 3 billion people live on less than $2 a day, more than one billion have no access to safe water, and 800 million are hungry. The engineers and professionals of today - and tomorrow - will be at the forefront of developing solutions to these global challenges.  Engineers Without Borders, a well-respected and award winning development organization, plays an important role in mobilizing students, engineers and other professionals to help people in developing communities gain access to technologies that will improve their lives.

George Roter, co-CEO of Engineers Without Borders who has been recognized as Canada's Top 40 under 40, will be speaking about the role of engineers and other professionals in an increasingly global community in which our actions tangibly affect those across the world.

To ensure adequate seating please preregister with the Calgary APEGGA Office at 262-7714 or register online prior to Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
