Darrell Norton, P.Eng. Earth Tech

The Province of Alberta has developed a unique procurement process for Design Build Finance and Operate (DBFO) concessions for major freeway assets. The process is currently being implemented by quadrants of the Ring Roads around Edmonton and Calgary. The Design Build phase of each project is contracted to be delivered on an aggressive schedule, significantly condensed over an equivalent Design Bid Build process. Financial models bound into the DBFO are built around the projected “Traffic Availability” date, and there are strong disincentives for schedule slippage.

Earth Tech is the lead designer for the Northeast Stoney Trail (NEST) P3. Design Manager Darrell Norton will present a project overview of NEST, and relate engineering management challenges of providing large scale fast-tracked design services for a private sector constructor that meet or exceed the Project Technical Requirements, employing geographically remote design teams, while the construction at site is proceeding full tilt.

To ensure adequate seating, please pre-register with the Calgary APEGGA Office at 262-7714 prior to Friday, May 9, 2008. Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for tickets sold prior to the day of the event.
