From Canada’s northern frontier to the Oil Fields of Dubai, Life Member Tom Morimoto shares his inspirational life story. Born in Edmonton in 1918, Tom Morimoto, P.Eng. moved to Fort McMurray when he was two years old. His life experiences include trading muskrats on the Athabasca River, working a gold claim, training as radio operator with Canadian Airways and later working with the International Bitumen Company. He enlisted during the Second World War taking part in the D Day invasion of Normandy. Returning to Alberta he pursued a higher education in chemical engineering and went on to earn his masters. He worked in Alberta and Ontario and was instrumental in the building of many gas plants in Western Canada. Later invited to be part of a project in the little-known Arab Emirate of Dubai, Tom Morimoto became vice-president of Scimitar, helping to recover gas that was being flared in the offshore oil production in the Persian Gulf.
Facilitator: Dr. L.V. Hills, P. Geol.
Is a career predetermined, planned or designed by others? By predetermined I mean that your career is set at birth and you follow a pre-determined path. By planned you sit down and lay out a course, which you rigorously follow. Designed by others is the influence of others, i.e. parents, environment, mentors and colleagues. In my career all factors came into play, with the least influential being the planned.
Pre-Registration and advance payments are required. Seating is limited and registrations will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Please call the Calgary APEGGA office at (403) 262-7714 to register before Friday, June 13, 2008.
