Unique is defined in a dictionary as one of a kind. The term is not a superlative although often the word is used as such, but simply means something that cannot be duplicated. One industry that offers many chances for unique opportunities is Geophysics. Seismic geophysics originated in China several centuries ago, but it was not until 1925 that an American, Clarence Karcher, incorporated the first independent seismic survey company.
By whatever coincidence Roy O. Lindseth, P.Geoph. was born in 1925, and before the end of WW II began a geophysical career with United Geophysical Corporation. United was founded by an engineer, Herbert Hoover Jr. who recognized the opportunities in the still nascent seismic industry. Since that time Lindseth has enjoyed the unique experience of participating in the growth of this major hi-tech international industry. The presentation will use his personal experiences to trace a unique personal career that followed the many innovations that turned seismic exploration into the major international industry that it is today.
