APEGGA Medicine Hat Branch – Tech & Social
Meeting
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
Presented by: Russel Smith, Manager
City of Medicine Hat Environmental Management
Russ Smith, Manager - Environmental Management
for the City of Medicine Hat, will speak on a number of the City's initiatives
to reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy. With the current level of the City's natural gas reserves declining
the City of Medicine Hat will need to begin purchasing some of our local
gas requirements from the open market as early as 2011. As
a result, the City has commissioned several alternative energy projects which
Russ is responsible for. Aquifer thermal energy storage - the use
of a buried valley aquifer for a renewable cooling and heating application, wind
power - an assessment of the Box Springs Road wind potential, and solar energy
- exploring solar thermal and solar photovoltaic options.
