The advent of Light Rail as a potent solution to urban flow over the years has come with mixed reviews and as London prepares to host the world in 2012 at the Summer Olympics, optimizing London’s existing transportation infrastructure with the introduction of additional services and upgrades makes for an interesting global case study for cities like Calgary, Edmonton & others with ongoing & planned LRT infrastructure projects.

The first part of this presentation will take the audience through a handful of major transportation projects in London, touching on Olympic (London2012) transportation infrastructure targets & objectives. The second and concluding part will be collaborative, inviting comments and observations from the audience in discussing implications of mass transit solution on public perception, acceptability, inclusive mobility, environmental sustainability and other key elements of modern day urban transportation solutions, drawing on prevalent situations in Calgary/Alberta.

This promises to be a very interesting overview at a global and local perspective, with significant ‘best practice’ ideas certain to emanate.
