Providing the energy needed for human welfare with acceptable climate risk is among the central engineering challenges of our time. Mastering the technical, managerial and financial challenges of large-scale carbon engineering is a central challenge for Alberta's energy industry. Opportunities for carbon engineering range from near-term options to improve the carbon efficiency of fuel production to large-scale CO2 capture and storage and the use of advanced technologies in the production of synthetic fuels with minimal life-cycle carbon footprint. I will describe a range of technical options from the immediate to the cutting edge, and will speculate about the political options for accelerating innovation in carbon engineering.

To ensure adequate seating, please pre-register with the Calgary APEGGA Office at (403) 262-7714 or by email at calgevents@apega.ca prior to Monday, October 6, 2008. Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
