In recent years, factors such as rapid growth in Edmonton have raised awareness of the need for a sustainable land use and transportation approach. If current growth patterns are continued into the future, many aspects of City infrastructure, particularly the transportation system, will be difficult, if not impossible, to sustain. Land use and transportation are closely linked.
The City of Edmonton has developed companion plans: The Way We Grow and The Way We Move. These land use and transportation plans lay out policies to allow Edmonton to grow in a more sustainable manner by focusing land development around transportation infrastructure investment.
