Lessons Learned on Global Sustainability from the Pacific Northwest – How Alberta Can Benefit
This presentation will capture some lessons learned on sustainability from Sustainable IndustrialDevelopment for the 21st Century’s recent Sustainability in Action tour to Seattle and Portland this pastMay 2010. This includes visits to Boeing, Nike, Starbucks, LaFarge, SolarWorld, etc. and various state and municipal business and economic development representatives. The audience willreceive a brief primer on sustainable industrial development, the driving factors, economics and what other areas/sectors have done to make the transformation into the green economy.
The presenter will also discuss trends at both the municipal level and industrial level; including some discussion of Alberta’s progress with embracing sustainability. Alberta’s emergence of more sustainable industrial development presents opportunities, which challenge the status quo. Elsewhere sustainability has already proven to be an economic reality, even in non-oil and gas resource-based dominated sectors.
