The Alberta Department of Energy's Oil Sands Business Unit is committed to collaboration with industry on reaching a production goal of 3 million barrels per day of bitumen by 2020. This goal can be realized, while minimizing overall costs, reducing the environmental footprint of oil sands development, and facilitating value-added processing in Alberta.  A significant portion of this production will involve value-added processing within Alberta.

Dr. Asgarpour’s comments will focus on the challenges related to achieving that vision for development of Alberta’s oil sands and related industries, and elaborate on the opportunities that will allow Alberta to maximize the economic and social benefits of integrated oil sands development.  He will highlight the ways in which synergies between sectors will be an important element in enhancing Alberta’s reputation as a global energy leader.

These challenges include technological development, innovation, research and development, sustainable resource development, environmental stewardship, human resources, and enhancement of an already superb infrastructure, with the remarkable oil sands resource as the centrepiece to these accomplishments.

To ensure adequate seating, please pre-register with the Calgary APEGGA Office at 262-7714 prior to Monday, December 5, 2005. Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for tickets sold prior to the day of the event.
