FORUM ON LIGHTING UP THE WORLD

A Sustainable Community Group @ Red Deer College will present a free public educational forum titled “Light Up the World”.

                Thursday, December 1
                7:00 p.m.
Margaret Parsons Theatre, Red Deer College

The speaker for this enlightening session is Dr. David Irvine-Halliday. He is an electrical engineer at the University of Calgary. David is also involved with the organization Light Up the World, which he co-founded with his wife and son in 1997.

Light Up The World Foundation (LUTW) is an international humanitarian organization affiliated with the University of Calgary dedicated to illuminating the lives of the world’s poor. It is the first humanitarian organization to utilize solid-state lighting technologies to bring affordable, safe, healthy, efficient, and environmentally responsible lighting to people currently without access to proper lighting.

Since inception, through the generous support from interested individuals, host country organizations, international foundations and industrial partners, LUTW has lit up more than 4,000 homes in countries around the globe.

David has received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal (Government of Canada), Time Canada Heroes, and Reader’s Digest Canadian Hero of the Year Award.

This forum is sponsored by the Sustainable Community Group @ Red Deer College (organized by the Science Department), the Central Alberta Branch of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is free.
