Science Olympics (April/May 2009)

The Science Olympics is an event that is held annually by APEGGA where junior and senior high schools in the Peace Country compete against one another in various scientific challenges.   There will also be activity booths setup demonstrating different scientific and engineering topics.  If you are interested in participating in one of the following positions, please contact:

Science Olympic Committee Members

Commitment: 1-2 Meetings per month leading up to the event

Description:  Science Olympic committee members are required to help plan for this event.  The members meet about 1-2 times a month to prepare for this event.  Planning for the Science Olympics includes fundraising, event promotion, materials gathering and general preparation for the event. The first planning meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 20 2009.


Event Judges

Committment: Day of the event

Time:  1:00 pm to 5:00pm

Where: Grande Prairie Composite High School

Description:  For each event judges are required to monitor and evaluate the participants during events.  Before the day of the events the Judges will familiarize themselves with their event to anticipate any difficulties that may occur.


Assistant Judge

Commitment: 1 hour time slots

Time:  1:00 pm to 5:00pm

Where: Grande Prairie Composite High School

Description:  Help the event judge facilitate the event.


Science Activity Booths

Commitment: 1 hour time slots

Time:  1:00 pm to 5:00pm

Where: Grande Prairie Composite High School

Description:  During the day there will be activity booths set up for participants and spectators of the Science Olympics to complete various engineering/scientific demonstrations.  The booths will be similar to what is done at the science night.


Registration Booth

Commitment: 1 hour time slots

Time:  1:00 pm to 5:00pm

Where: Grande Prairie Composite High School

Description:  At the beginning of the Science Olympics a booth will be setup to register the event volunteers and competing teams.
