Information and communications technology, or ICT, is an industry sector that now outpaces growth of the broader economy by four to one. It is fundamental to success in all economic sectors. We have witnessed the building of the Internet highway from sub-grade to passenger ready. The Internet is now a utility. We expect to have it. We expect it to work.

We are in the midst of a fundamental ICT and telecom shift from building the utility – networks – to deriving value from content and applications that leverage ubiquitous networks. Industry and the R&D community’s grasp of the opportunities and challenges presented by three key strategic trends will significantly influence the ability of western Canada to foster future competitive advantage and economic prosperity. Those trends are ubiquitous wireless, convergence and globalization.

Change is like dancing with a gorilla – you can't stop because you're tired. Success is a matter of balance. It is the building and sustaining of foundations research and realizing synergy with leverage of that capacity with application research. It is the ability to achieve balance between market pull and technology push. And it is the ability to bridge Canada’s commercialization gap and maintain the long-term perspective that leads to new avenues of discovery.

Express Registration: To avoid the line-ups, pre-register with your VISA, American Express or MasterCard and pick up your receipt at the door. Please note that refunds will not be issued if cancellations are received within two working days of the luncheon. No-shows will be billed.

To register, please call Shirley Layne at 426-3990, ext. 2369 or e-mail: slayne@apega.ca by Thursday, March 10.
