Edmonton Remand Centre – Challenges & Opportunities

The New Edmonton Remand Centre project is the largest capital owned building project ever undertaken by the Alberta Government. This $620 million facility will replace the 30 year old remand centre located in downtown Edmonton. The new Edmonton Remand Centre has a total building footprint of 56,700 square meters (equivalent to approximately 8 Canadian football fields), will house approximately 2000 inmates, is scheduled to be completed by late November 2011 and when completed will be the largest correctional facility in Canada. The design, procurement and management of this project have offered significant challenges to the team, which will be explained by the Alberta Infrastructure project manager, the Design Team Leader and the Construction Manager.
