ACE 2010 Conference

Tackles Energy & the Environment

Two of the major issues in the news right now – energy and the environment – take centre stage at an international waste management conference in Calgary in June. The 103rd annual Air & Waste Management Association Conference & Exhibition takes place June 22-25 in Calgary.

The event will boost Calgary’s profile as an international player in the energy, waste and environmental industries, organizers say. Key representatives of the waste industry from around the world are expected, says conference chair Joe Lukacs, P.Eng. Upwards of 2,400 delegates are expected during the event at the TELUS Convention Centre, to learn more about alternative energy, policy and regulatory issues, greenhouse gas emissions management, the future of fossil fuels and much more.

Vendor Registry

The Vendor Registry for Architectural and Engineering Services was successfully launched April 1, 2009, by Alberta Infrastructure. As part of the VRAES, Alberta Infrastructure will implement a consultant performance evaluation process this summer, which will be used to support the short-listing of consultants for future Infrastructure project opportunities.

All firms offering architectural and engineering consulting services are invited to one of the sessions as indicated in the VRAES RegForm. Sessions are being held June 1 & 2, and June 10 & 11, in Edmonton and Calgary.

By way of these information sessions, Alberta Infrastructure welcomes valuable feedback prior to implementation of the consultant performance evaluation process. This process was created in partnership with Consulting Engineers of Alberta and Consulting Architects of Alberta.

June Meeting – Member Learning

Market Facilitation – connecting farmers to buyers

Many EWB overseas volunteers in the Value Chains team in southern Africa have been working with organizations attempting to do market facilitation and catalyze relationships between farmers and buyers. This can often be a lot easier said than done, especially for the relationship to continue after the organization has removed its support. At this upcoming meeting volunteers will talk about the challenges faced by market facilitators. Sierra Jensen will facilitate a workshop based on her experience working as a Junior Fellow in Zambia.

June 6, Stanley Milner Library, 2 - 4 p.m., Room 5, 6th floor. Ask security to unlock the elevator for you.
