We at the Engineering Students’ Society are currently finishing up our fall semesters. The temperature is falling, our lectures, labs and seminars are coming to a close, and we are all getting ready for two things: winter break and finals, some more and then others.
With the arrival of winter also came a few ESS events. We are also putting on a few large activities as soon as we enter into winter semester 2007.
Past Events

PRETTY IN PINK |
The Engineering Hair Dye was on Nov. 19. and, appropriately enough, the Head Shave followed on Nov. 24, which is the largest single fundraising event that the ESS holds. Students, faculty and alumni were invited to shave their head to raise funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The Hair Dye alone raised over $2,000, and the monies from the Head Shave are still being calculated.
On Dec. 4 the ESS celebrated 87 years since the establishment of the Engineering Students’ Society. We wish a happy birthday to us!
Dec. 8 was the last day of classes for the fall semester, which was followed by the Iron Ring Party and Ceremony on Dec. 9.
Then finals began.
Upcoming Events
As the majority of December is filled with busy students studying and writing
finals, and as the Engineering Students’ Society is made up of students,
there is very little in the way of events programming in December. Once we return
from the winter break the story is a little bit different.
I will lead a delegation of eight University of Albert Engineering students to Montreal for the 2007 Canadian Federation of Engineering Students Congress, Jan. 2-8. This is the general meeting of the federation, and we will do our best to represent our counterparts and bring back as much information as possible.
Then from Jan. 13 to 20, the first week of winter semester marks the largest event of the ESS, Geer Week. This is a week filled with competition and friendly rivalry between disciplines.
One of the major features of Geer Week is the Engineering Career Fair, Jan. 19, in the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex. Here over 30 companies will showcase themselves to prospective employees. This is a great chance for all our students to see the amazing opportunities open to them for summer or long-term employment.
On behalf the entire volunteer support of the
Engineering Students’ Society,
I would like to wish everyone season’s greetings. Have a safe and happy
holiday.
