Permits to practice are an important element of APEGGA’s obligation to regulate the professions. Many Responsible Members named on these permits, however, tell us that they’re unsure of the responsibilities suggested by their title.
Are you one a Responsible Member with questions?
A seminar, giving RMs a chance to discuss their obligations, appears to be the
most effective way to clarify roles. To this end, APEGGA introduced the mandatory
Permit to Practice Seminar in September of 2003.
To date, over 5,000 Responsible Members have attended these seminars. Based on the feedback we’ve received, over 90 per cent supported the need for them.
These free seminars clearly explain the duties of the Chief Operating Officers and Responsible Members with respect to the APEGGA permit, and the role that APEGGA plays in regulating the professions of engineering, geology and geophysics. Further, the topic of risk and loss management in professional practice is introduced and discussed.
The Fort McMurray Branch has arranged for a Permit to Practice Seminar to take place on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Oilsands Interpretive Centre. Details can be found below. If you are interested in having the seminar come to your branch, get in touch with your APEGGA branch executive.
Attendance to the seminar is mandatory at least once every five years for everyone named as a Responsible Member on an APEGGA permit. You are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to fulfill this professional obligation.
Please use the link below to find the seminar schedule and to register. If you are unable to attend one of the free seminars in person, the link will also provide you an electronic option that satisfies the requirement.
