Electronic Voting, R.P.T. Rights Passed

The Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Act now contains provisions for electronic voting and notice. Changes approved by the province in April also allow for a new category of provisional membership and more rights for registered professional technologists.

The provisions mean APEGGA is allowed to give members official notices via e-mail. Also, elections and other votes can be held electronically and be valid.

The new membership category is for applicants who fulfill all requirements of licensure except their one year of North American-equivalent experience. The Board of Examiners is now allowed to give these applicants a “provisional licensee” title, while they gain their experience.

Members carrying the R.P.T. designation now have full member rights. They are permitted to run for APEGGA office and vote in APEGGA elections and ballots.

There could be some confusion with the One Act, Two Associations provisions now being considered by the legislature. These changes are separate, and APEGGA requested the other ones much earlier.
