Geoscience Day employed some extra microscope muscle, last month at the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre. APEGGA presented two new rock microscopes to the centre.
The microscopes will be used during events, courses and conferences as learning tools, offering the public a chance to delve deeper into the world of rocks.
More than 60 people attended Geoscience Day on May 23, which unveiled the new microscopes and also provided attendees with a number of interactive displays and activities. The day explored rock terminology and the mysteries of the Bow Valley. Information about career opportunities in the geosciences was also presented.
Volunteers from APEGGA, the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists and the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists were there to answer technical questions and to provide hands-on demonstrations of industry equipment.
APEGGA has a long association with the Canmore centre. The Association has helped fund the Stones and Bones summer camp and geoscience displays.
