Congratulations to our 2009 Teacher Awards recipients, whose names follow. Each name is accompanied by a few quotations from their nominators.

NORTHERN ALBERTA
Janelle Benedet
Oliver School, Edmonton
We are always doing fun and exciting experiments and projects that help us apply what we learn to the real world. This really helps us see how valuable science is in our day-to-day lives. Being in Ms. Benedet’s class has increased my love for and understanding of science.

Kim Burnham
W.P. Wagner School, Edmonton
Ms. Burnham has given me an entirely new way to think about math and its far-reaching effects on our daily life. Her teaching style is awesome! She has faith in me and made me realize that yes! I can do it!

Gregory Henkelman

Mr. McMain puts 150 per cent effort to make science fun and he definitely succeeds. He comes up with the coolest ideas and ways to teach us. He makes learning so fun that you barely notice that you are learning. Thank you, Mr. McMain, for giving us the best science classes ever!

Amy Peter

We do a ton of science experiments; I love them all. She doesn’t just tell us, she shows us. It is very apparent when you watch Amy teach that this is more than a job for her, teaching is her calling. Amy Peter is moulding future scientists.

David Sobolewski

I got lucky and was in Mr. Sobolewski’s class in Grade 2. Then I got lucky again and got him in Grade 3. For two years I had the best science classes of my life. Mr. Soboleweski changed my view of the world, not just science.

I always thought that math was hard, but she makes it easy for us and if we can’t do it one way, she finds another way. I love math now. She incorporates math into everything she teaches and it is amazing! She has done a remarkable job in our school with math.
