One of the co-founders of the company that became Google Earth will share his insights into the rapidly expanding role of global information systems, during a conference Nov. 16 in Edmonton. Michael Jones, chief technical officer of Google Earth, will give one of the keynote addresses at the second annual NAIT Computer Training Centre GIS Earth Day Conference.
Among other presenters will be Dr. Joseph Berry, a renowned GIS scholar, consultant and software developer from the University of Denver, Michael Schlosser, P.Eng., of Autodesk, and Dr. Touraj Nasseri, P.Eng., of Alberta Infrastructure.
The day “promises to be an intensive, educational and exciting event,” says
information from NAIT.
A major attraction will be Mr. Jones, formerly of Keyhole, the company Google
bought to create Google Earth. These days, Google Earth is receiving more than
100 million unique downloads a year.
The conference reflects the emerging and wide-ranging role of GIS technology. It’s not just about finding your way to a new address.
In fact, GIS relates geography to all manner of data, affecting everything
from marketing and business decisions to the construction of infrastructure and
the application of agricultural inputs.
