Foundation Nets $6,200 As APEGGA Golfers Cook

The 31st annual APEGGA Golf Tournament often lands on picture-perfect August weather, but this year it outdid itself. “We had 100 golfers sweating it out on what must have been the hottest day of 2008,” said Andrew Poole, P.Eng., one of the organizers of the Red Deer Golf and Country Club event.
Deputy Premier Gene Zwozdesky and Red Deer South MLA Cal Dallas brought government representation to the tourney. But even with the Alberta Advantage on their side, they weren’t able to get their teams to the trophy table, Mr. Poole said.
“As usual the setting was awesome, the food was sensational and the golf was, well, comme ci, comme ca!” Mr. Poole joked. “Actually, mixed in with the camaraderie and good-natured ribbing among players was a spirited competition for the 24 hole prizes, seven individual trophies, the putting contest and the team award.”
Plenty of help from golf course staff, local volunteers and APEGGA staff made the event go smoothly. Ron Tenove, P.Eng., and his wife, Pat, built a “rock-solid foundation for the next 30 years of this great tournament,” said Mr. Poole. The Tenoves retired from their tourney-running duties, last year.
APEGGA Education Foundation came out a winner, too, bringing in donations and proceeds from the putting contest worth nearly $6,200.
