This award is presented to Members of APEGGA who have made exemplary contributions to teaching and learning at a recognized post-secondary teaching establishment in Alberta.
Dr. Ayodeji Jeje, P.Eng, is a passionate educator with an infectious enthusiasm that comes across in every single class that he teaches. Since 1980 he has been a Professor in the University of Calgary’s Chemical and Petroleum Engineering department. He genuinely cares about the education and success of his students. His skills have led to exceptional teaching evaluations and to many teaching excellence awards throughout his career from the Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering Students' Society, the Engineering Students' Society, the University of Calgary Students' Union and the Schulich School of Engineering.
As the Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies for his department for the last eight years, Dr. Jeje has been accessible to all chemical and oil and gas engineering students. He strives to ensure that students’ academic experiences are positive by counselling them on academic and personal issues and by making certain that students are maintaining progress in their degree programs. He also addresses students' concerns by working closely with the department Head and the Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering Students' Society.
Through his position as the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning for the Schulich School since 2003, Dr. Jeje has brought his passion to the entire disciplinary unit. Several times a year, he holds workshops on effective teaching practices and student learning. Some workshops target new and continuing teaching assistants and others are for faculty members. Due in large part to his enthusiasm, expertise and experience, all the workshops are well attended. By sharing his teaching knowledge with his colleagues, Dr. Jeje has succeeded in raising the bar for teaching excellence at the Schulich and this, in turn, enhances the educational experience for all engineering students.
At the university level, Dr. Jeje is the Chair for the Academic Programs Committee (APC) of the General Faculty Council (GFC) for 2007-2008. APC’s objectives include facilitating the development of academic programs, encouraging innovation in program design and delivery, and promoting improvement in the quality of teaching and learning. Since 2006, he has also chaired the APC's Learning and Instructional Development Subcommittee charged, in part, with promoting teaching innovations that enhance learning and identifying initiatives for priority funding for a committee of the GFC.
