1. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting commenced at 12:10 p.m.


2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

There was one addition:

3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 19, 2001, MEETING

MOVED by Anil Nayak and SECONDED by Tibor Kaldor, THAT the minutes of the March 19, 2001, meeting be accepted as distributed. Carried.


4. GEOSCIENCE COMMUNITY LIAISON SUBCOMMITTEE

Please refer to the previously distributed email from Ron Hinds for details.


5. SPONSORSHIP SUBCOMMITTEE

There was nothing new to report. Steve will follow-up with Len after the AGC.

6. SPECIAL EVENTS SUBCOMMITTEE


6.1 NEW

6.2 CSPG Honourary Address

7. MENTORING SUBCOMMITTEE

With the funds provided by the Calgary Branch, the Mentoring Subcommittee purchased a set of instructional videos and booklets on mentoring. The booklets, How To Be Mentors and How To Be Mentees will be available for purchase ($20 each) at the PD Mentoring Seminar on Thursday, April 26th.

Judith will make the presentation - She will show the instructional videos and present the concepts on mentoring.

Attendees will be asked to fill out the feedback form after the session. Ed will take down names of those who are interested in being a part of the pilot mentoring groups.


8. PROMOTIONS/NEWSLETTER SUBCOMMITTEE

The last newsletter sent via email to members of the Calgary area was a promotion of the April 12th luncheon, on biomedical engineering. It was a huge success, and may have increased the attendance for the luncheon as much as 50-60%.

Other Calgary Branch information such as: branch activity reports, minutes, and events, are also listed through links on the APEGGA website www.apegga.org. (click on branches, then choose Calgary).

9. BRANCH MEETINGS COMMITTEE

The first pilot luncheon, outside of the downtown core, was held at The Carriage House Inn on March 27th. There were approximately 90-100 in attendance. Next season 2001/2002, the committee will look into holding luncheons in other geological quadrants of the city as well.

9.1 Lunches

The last luncheon of the season is May 24th. Jadwiga Kroman, P.Eng., of the City of Calgary will make a presentation on the restoration of the Centre Street Bridge.

9.2 PD Evenings

The next PD evening is Monday, May 23rd, at The 400 Club with Dr. George Jergeas, P.Eng., as the facilitator. The topic is Dispute Prevention and Management.


10. NEW BUSINESS - JOINT ACTIVITIES WITH ASET

The Calgary Chapter Chair of ASET approached John Pastega inquiring about the possibility of attending future CBEC meetings. There was some discussion on this but without conclusion. Further discussion is required.


11. CONFIRMATION OF CBEC MEETINGS - DATES/TIME

The CBEC meeting dates are as follows at noon in the Calgary APEGGA office.
