BRANCH ACTIVITY REPORT
   

April 25, 2001

Branch Meeting:

  • Since the last Branch Chairs' Meeting, the Central Alberta APEGGA Branch conducted two branch executive meetings and numerous branch events
  • The Central Alberta Branch will have an executive meeting in May 2001 and the Branch AGM in May 2001. We plan to work with our membership, local community groups and schools during in the summer breaks as well (golf tournaments, judging science projects, etc).

Plant Tours / Events / PD Day / Students Outreach:

  • The Third Annual Central Alberta College Student Night took place on March 6th, 2001. About 35 students and APEGGA Members participated in the event. The event was very successful. Members mentioned that they enjoyed meeting and talking with engineering students. The Central Alberta Branch also presented an Outstanding Contribution Award / Plaque to Dr. Arun Mishra, P.Eng. for all of his good work in the past number of years with the branch and the Red Deer College. Dr. Mishra, P.Eng. teaches at the Red Deer College and is senior member of the Central Alberta Branch.

  • On March 23 and 24, 2001, several Central Alberta Branch Executives and Members (4) participated in the Central Alberta Science Fair. The Central Alberta Science Fair is part of the Canada Science Fair. Science projects from K to 12 are judged and winners from the Central Alberta area goes to Canada Science Fair.
  • Mr. Bruce Thorne, P.Eng. provided a presentation to the Consort School in Consort Alberta. On behalf of the Central Alberta APEGGA Branch membership, I want to thank Bruce and other members that volunteered their time to speak to student and organize events for the members.
  • The Central Alberta Branch and Executives are working closely with our local ASET Chapter (Presentation at the Central Alberta ASET AGM, planning a joint golf tournament).
  • The Central Alberta APEGGA Professional Development Day was a great success. Forty three people attended and the feedback was almost unanimously positive. People were pleased with the quality of the presentations. The following recommendations were made for next year: more comfortable venue, longer sessions for more in-depth learning, course ideas from the most popular to the least: project management, financial management/taxes, effective use of e-mail, presentations.

Branch Budget:

  • The branch balance is approximately $800 as of April 10, 2001.

Upcoming Events:

  • Branch executive meeting plan for May.
  • Central Alberta AGM.
  • Plant / Facility Tour of the New Recreational Centre in Red Deer.
