Since the last APEGGA Council Meeting, the following activities have taken place in the Vermilion River Branch:

Executive Meetings:

Branch executive meetings were held in Lloydminster on November 27, 2000 and January 10, 2001. Items discussed included: Annual General Meeting; Newsletter; National Engineering Week; Program for 2001/2002; Membership Database; and Professional Development day.

Student Outreach:

Arrangements for 1999/2000 Teacher Award dinner are proceeding on J. Keaschuk recommendations to present gift certificate for dinner.

Last student award presented to Paradise Valley Gr. IX student. Next group of student awards will be in spring. Proceeding with incorporating new APEGGA logo on student award plaques.

Plan to work towards having Science Olympics style event for 2002 National Engineering Week.


Events Held:

On November 29, 2000 a technical presentation was held on Growth and Opportunity in Alberta's Oil Sands with presenter Bob Gartshore of Syncrude. Response was excellent with 67 people attending!

On January 31, 2001 a lunch meeting was held in Vegreville with 7 local APEGGA members coming out to meet the Sue, Dale and Neil.

Also, on January 31, 2001 the branch AGM was held in conjunction with the President's Visit & Address, Professional Member Induction Ceremony and Life Member Recognition. 5 new professional members were inducted (including one RPT) and one life member was recognised. Approximately 30% of branch membership was in attendance. Total attendance was 55 people including local Chamber of Commerce President. Two new MAL's (K. Green, C. Ketchum) were also welcomed onto the executive.

Future:

The next executive meeting has been set for February 21st in Lloydminster.

In April 2001, it is tentatively planned to tour the Imperial Oil thermal facilities in Cold Lake area.

Planning for a Professional Development Day is underway with tentative timing early April. This event will be jointly sponsored by our branch, APEGS and the local ASET / SASST branch.

The annual branch golf tournament is planned for June 2001. A change of venue is being considered
