professional TECHNOLOGIST (P.Tech)

The Professional Technologist (P.Tech) is a newly created designation under the amended Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Act of Alberta.

The P.Tech. designation is entirely different than the former Registered Professional Technologist (R.P.T.) designation.

The former R.P.T. designation has been renamed Professional Licensee. For more information on Professional Licensee click here.

Professional Technologists will be members of The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) and will not be members of APEGGA. They will however, be jointly regulated by APEGGA and ASET and will have their admission qualifications evaluated by the APEGGA/ASET Joint Board of Examiners.

Professional Technologists will be given the right to independently practice engineering/geology/geophysics within a specified scope of practice that is the routine application of industry recognized codes, standards, procedures and practices using established engineering or applied science principles and methods of problem solving as specified by the ASET/APEGGA Joint Board of Examiners.
