Mission
To enhance and provide leadership and support in the education and development of engineers, geologists and geophysicists, and those who wish to enter the professions.
History (less info)
The Foundation was incorporated effective December 13, 1996 under the Societies Act. The Foundation qualified for tax-exempt status, and was registered with Revenue Canada on January 1, 1997 as a charitable organization. It is an arms-length organization from APEGGA.
The Foundation was created to help ensure that the engineering and geoscience professions maintain and strengthen their support for education by encouraging APEGGA members to donate and/or endow funds for educational purposes. As such, it is a vehicle for APEGGA members and others to donate funds to be used to further the professional development to APEGGA members, their children and those who may enter the professions.
From a humble beginning, with APEGGA funding only, its assets grew to over $1M and in the intervening years hundreds of students have benefited to the tune of about $1M. In 2008, a total of $1M was endowed to the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary for initiatives that support the Foundation's objectives. Currently, funding commitments, either directly or through endowments and the universities, are $185,000 annually. The ten year forecast indicates that it will be able to expand its funding activities to include a broader range of activities.
