The City of Swift Current, located on the Trans Canada Highway, is a progressive City of 15,000 people serving as the hub of South West Saskatchewan, within a trading area of approximately 55,000 people. The area is largely an agricultural base, with oil and gas, tourism and manufacturing sectors contributing to the economy. The City of Swift Current has many larger city amenities, and provides the quality of life of a smaller community.

The City Engineer reports to the City Commissioner and is responsible to direct, control, and administer the efficient operation of the Engineering and Public Works functions. This shall include the planning, construction and maintenance of streets, water treatment and distribution, sewage collection, treatment and disposal, and solid waste collection and disposal. This position directs the planning, engineering and design of in-house and private property and subdivision development, and is also responsible for bylaw enforcement, business licensing and animal control. The duties include planning, design, policy and program development and implementation and the senior administrative duties necessary to efficiently and effectively provide all Engineering and Public Works services.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Degree in Engineering (with preference for a Civil Engineer with a P. Eng. Designation)
- Membership in or eligibility for registration in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan
- Minimum of five (5) years experience directly related to the field of municipal engineering, including experience in a management/supervisory role
- Additional training in the areas of accounting, personnel administration, management and public relations are desirable
- Ability to clearly summarize complex issues and produce clear, concise reports
- Ability to make immediate and effective decisions within the framework of established policy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff and government, elected officials, consultants, and the general public
