11:30 am Registration 12:00 pm Luncheon 12:35 pm Guest Speaker Penny Dunford, CSLA, Senior Landscape Architect, Stantec Stantec's Edmonton office is in the process of installing a state-of-the-art green roof on the third-floor roof of its atrium building. The green roof will contribute to Stantec's LEED silver rating application and will provide many benefits to the surrounding environment, including reduced rain, stormwater, and snow melt runoff, as moisture is trapped by the plants and soil. It will also reduce the amount of "heat island" effect as plants absorb reflected heat that normally builds up in urban areas, which will decrease the use of air conditioning. Ms. Dunford will discuss the pros and cons of the various types of green roofs as well as the benefits of constructing such a project. First Notice Central Alberta Branch has organized a forum on the Kyoto agreement for the APEGGA members, college students and the Red Deer community on January 18, 2005.
